Was run over by a speeding auto while crossing New Kantharaj Urs Road
Mysore/Mysuru: A porcupine, which had sustained injuries after a speeding autorickshaw ran over it on New Kantharaj Urs Road, has been rescued by the members of People For Animals (PFA) and Forest Department personnel last night.
At about 7 pm yesterday, the porcupine was crossing Kantharaj Urs Road, when a speeding auto which came from Vijaya Bank Circle side ran over it causing injuries to the animal. Unable to move, the animal somehow dragged itself to the other side of the road and collapsed on the footpath.
As public screamed on seeing the animal and due to the noise of moving vehicle, the porcupine hid beneath a drain.
Meanwhile, Forest Department employee Santosh Nayak and PFA members Cobra Kumar, Santosh and Kiran, who reached the spot, rescued the porcupine.
The rescuers said that the animal would be released in the forest area of Chamundi Hill after treatment.
The porcupine is said to be three years old and was found moving around in this region since about seven months.
According to Santosh Nayak, porcupines are solitary, slow-moving animals that largely keep to themselves unless threatened.
They are rarely seen during daytime as they are most active at night.
