Indian culture and music have earned special status across the world

Mysuru: A two-day veena recitals titled ‘Mysuru Veena Parampare’ was organised by Veena Vidwan T.V. Narasimhan with assistance from Union Ministry of Culture, at Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar here recently. Inaugurating the programme, Dr. Guido Zanderigo, Director, Venetian Academy for Indian Studies, Italy, observed that Indian culture and music have earned a special status across the world. He said that Indian music has brought him all the way to Mysuru. He added that he has great respect for Mysuru Maharajas. The occasion also marked the presentation of Jayachamaraja Wadiyar birth anniversary memorial awards instituted by Brahmavidya, Mysuru, in association with Ursu community. The awards were presented to Dr. Guido Zanderigo, art patron Dr. M.G.R. Urs, Mysuru and Dr. S. Ramakrishna Pisipaty, Dean, SCSVM University, Kanchi. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M.G.R. Urs opined that such programmes would boost the culture of the country. He lauded the contribution of Mysuru Maharajas to the city and culture. He pointed out that warfare would destroy a nation while musicians can build the same. On the occasion, T.V. Narasimhan presented a veena recital. He was accompanied by Vid. Nikshit T. Puttur on mridanga and Ramesh on ghata. Musicologist Dr. R. Satyanarayana, Bharatanatyam artiste Dr. G.K. Ashwath Harithas, scholar Dr. R.S. Nandakumar and others were present.
