Hundreds of people from all walks of life including students in large numbers participated in 'Run for Unity' marathon organised as part of National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) in city this morning. The event was organised by Mysuru City Police in association with Alert Citizens Team (ACT) as part of the nationwide Unity call given by Union and State Governments to commemorate the 143rd birth anniversary of Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subramanyeswara Rao flagged off the marathon at St. Philomena’s Church in city around 7 am. Speaking after administering the oath for the participants to protect the unity and integrity of the nation, the City Police Commissioner highlighted the significance of celebrating the National Unity Day.
