Mysuru: The Mysuru Hotel Owners’ Association has expressed concern over the sudden inspections and closure of hotels and restaurants in the wake of the recent tragedy at a pub in Dattagalli.
In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner and the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner, Association President C. Narayanagowda said the industry supports strict enforcement of safety norms but urged authorities to give establishments a reasonable time to comply with regulations.
The Association pointed out that many hotels and restaurants had renewed their trade licences in March 2026, yet were directed to shut down without prior notice or a grace period to rectify shortcomings.
“While rules must be enforced in the interest of public safety, businesses should be given at least a month to address any deficiencies,” the letter stated. Such an approach, it said, would ensure compliance without causing undue hardship to entrepreneurs.
Narayanagowda noted that the hospitality sector is a major contributor to Mysuru’s economy and tourism-driven reputation, with thousands of traders regularly paying taxes.
He said the industry is already grappling with rising LPG prices, staff shortages and inflation, and warned that abrupt closures could further aggravate the situation.
The association has sought a meeting between district authorities and hotel owners to discuss the issue. It has also appealed to officials to permit establishments that have been closed to resume operations once corrective measures are implemented.
“We urge the authorities to provide adequate time to comply with the prescribed norms,” Narayanagowda said.
