Bengaluru: In a setback to staff and workers of State-run Transport Unions, the Karnataka High Court today (May 19), restrained the Transport Unions from resorting to an indefinite strike from tomorrow (May 20). The Court, at the same time, directed for continuation of meetings with the State authorities for resolution of grievances or demands.

A vacation Bench of Justices Suraj Govindaraj and K. Manmadha Rao passed the interim order on a PIL filed by C. Vedavathi, a house maid of Bengaluru and another construction worker claiming that their livelihood would be impacted if KSRTC bus services are not available.

During the hearing, the Court orally noted the Government’s claim that substantial demands of the Transport Unions have already been met with by releasing necessary funds.

The Court posted the next hearing in the case to May 21, it is learnt.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of State Transport Unions’ had called for an indefinite strike across the State from May 20 seeking fulfilment of various demands.
