Mysore/Mysuru: With the over a century-old University of Mysore (UoM) facing severe dearth of funds, the State Government on Monday released Rs. 25 crore to the UoM, thus bringing some relief for the cash crunched University.
In an order issued yesterday, the State Government released grants for 6 Universities only for payment of pensions (2025-26).
The Government released a total of Rs. 100 crore, including Rs. 25 crore each to UoM, Mysuru and Karnatak University, Dharwad, Rs. 5 crore to Bangalore University, Jnanabharathi, Bengaluru and Rs. 15 crore each to Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi, Mangalore University, Mangaluru and Kuvempu University, Shivamogga.
While releasing funds for pension payments, the Government has also asked all the 6 Varsities to submit a report on utilisation of funds with supporting list.
It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who had attended an event in Mysuru last week, had assured to release funds to the financially ailing UoM, in which he had studied. In keeping with the assurance, the Government has released Rs.100 crore to 6 Universities for payment of pensions.
