Bengaluru: The State Government has issued a notification relaxing the admission age for 1st standard students by two months from the present 6 years. This relaxation is however applicable only for the academic year 2026-27.

The relaxation is to address the practical problems faced by parents while submitting online applications and also to offline admissions to 1st std.

Since this was a recurring problem, the Karnataka Government too was mulling a new legislation to find a permanent solution.

Minister for Literacy and Primary and Secondary Education Madhu Bangarappa has said that the government intends to provide clarity and streamline admission process at the time of admissions to LKG and UKG itself by bringing in legislation.
