Mysuru: The Dalvoy Lake on Mysuru-Nanjangud Road was a beehive of activity this morning as people came to the Lake in search of gold and cash that had been dumped there by a gang of dacoits. Over 50 people had gathered at the Lake following rumours that dacoits had covered some gold bars and Rs. 23 lakh in cash in plastic bags and had dumped them inside the Lake last night. The rumours were so strong that people came in search of the booty early in the morning today and some of them even entered the Lake and the rest were poking the water near the Lake’s bund with long sticks hoping to strike gold. People who were passing by the road stopped their vehicles to enquire what was happening. Some of them even joined the search for cash and gold. The rumour-mongers had claimed that the dacoits would return tonight to the same spot to recover their stolen wealth and the valuables had to be taken off the place before they returned. Soon, another rumour spread that the Police have seized the gold and cash and had kept them at a Police Station. Ultimately, the people who gathered there realised that it was just a rumour and they had become a laughing stock. They later left the place, disappointed.
