The Union Government has codified nearly 44 existing Labour Laws into four Labour Codes, namely the Wages Code, Industrial Relations Code, Code on Social Security and Welfare, and Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions. Out of the four codes, the Code on Wages has been passed by the Lok Sabha and has been published in the Union Gazette on Aug.8, 2019. It will come into force on such date as the Central Government may notify it. The Code on Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions has been introduced in the Parliament and the Government has agreed to refer it to the Standing Committee for a thorough discussion.
