Mysuru: “Industries should focus on safety and health of the workers,” said H. Suresh, Assistant Director of Factories, Industrial Safety and Health, Mysuru Division. He was speaking at the 55th one-day training programme organised by Nanjangud Industries Association (NIA) and the Department of Factories and Boilers, Industrial Safety and Health, here recently. He appreciated the efforts of NIA in propagating the knowledge on first-aid at workplace for workers and supervisors working in industries and commercial establishments, so that they are able to mitigate the incident and provide basic first-aid to the injured employee. He lamented that 98 percent of the industrial accidents occur due to the negligence of those working on the machinery and in some cases, proper equipment, supervision, basic training is not imparted to the people on the job. He also called on the Industries to train more than 20 percent of the employees and include contract labour in first-aid training. Various industries and establishments based in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts deputed over 80 workers and supervisors for the one-day programme. Dr. B. Prakash, an expert in first-aid from St. John’s Ambulance Association, conducted the programme through lecture, discussions, demonstration and case studies. NIA President M.S. Ramaprasad welcomed. NIA Manager G Ravindran proposed a vote of thanks. NIA Secretary B.S. Chandrashekar, Advisor to Industries Association Ravichandra Bekal and Medical Expert Dr. B. Prakash were present during the occasion.
