Elephantiasis survey in district from June 24

Elephantiasis disease is at the elimination stage in the district and ASHA workers would visit houses in the district along with Health Assistants from June 24 to 26 and collect information from people who have recovered from elephantiasis and new cases. Elephantiasis or Lymphatic Filariasis is spread by Wuchereria Bancrofti, a human parasitic round worm which in turn is spread by a variety of mosquito vector species which breed in polluted water and bite humans only in the night. As of now no case of elephantiasis is being reported in the district, according to a press release from the District vector-borne control office.
