Election duty: Bus services not likely to be hit on May 11, 12

Mysuru: The Election Commission is renting out the Karnataka State Road Transport (KSRTC) buses for the mustering and de-mustering for the Assembly elections to be held on May 12. However, this will not affect the commuters as enough buses will be provided. In all, 165 buses from the KSRTC rural depot has been hired and an additional 25 buses have already been taken by the Police Department since the last ten days. Another 179 buses from KSRTC urban depot has been hired, said Divisional Controller (Rural) M. Vasu and Divisional Controller (Urban) K.H. Srinivas respectively, speaking to Star of Mysore here this morning. The buses will be handed over to the District Electoral Officer early tomorrow morning (May 11) at 6 for the election duty, said the officials. As per the charges fixed by the election wing of Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), the Election Commission pays Rs.10,000 per bus which includes the cost of fuel and for two days it will cost Rs.20,000 per bus. However, both Vasu and Srinivas assured that the regular bus commuters will not be put to inconvenience as arrangements for sufficient buses had been made. In case there is a heavy rush then more trips will be made, they added.
