Mysuru: Dr. R. Indira, formerly Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Sociology, University of Mysore and Honorary President of the Alumni Association of Sociology Students of the University, has been elected as President of Indian Sociological Society for 2018-2019.
With nearly 4,550 Life Members, the Indian Sociological Society is one of the largest organisations of professional sociologists in the world. Dr. Indira is the second woman President of the Society in its 67-year-old history and the second from Karnataka after Prof. M. N. Srinivas, the doyen of Indian Sociology. Dr. Indira has also served the Society as its Secretary.
