City’s Principal JMFC Court Judge Ramesh Babu yesterday posted the hearing of a petition filed by the family members of Dy.SP M.K. Ganapathy, who committed suicide at a lodge in Madikeri on July 7, 2016 to consider them as co-complainants, to March 6. Ganapathy’s father M.K. Kushalappa, mother Poovamma, brother M.K. Machaiah and sister Sabitha had filed application to the Court on Oct. 24, to consider them as co-complainants. The case, which was to come up for hearing at the JMFC Court presided by Judge Annapoorneshwari yesterday, was transferred to Judge Ramesh Babu’s Court as Annapoorneshwari was on leave. Dy.SP late Ganapathy had committed suicide in a lodge in Madikeri on July 7. Prior to suicide, in an interview to a private channel, he had named Minister K.J. George, senior IPS Officers A.M. Prasad and Pronab Mohanty of harassing him. The CID, which probed the suicide case, had given clean chit to all the three. While Ganapathy’s wife Pavana and son Nehal expressed satisfaction over the probe, the family members objected to it and filed an application in the Court. Ganapathy’s family filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to hand over the case to CBI. The SC has directed the State Government to explain why the case should not be handed over to the CBI within two weeks. Speaking to reporters, Ganapathy’s brother M.K. Machaiah said that the family members are confident of getting justice in the Apex Court. “We had not demanded for CID probe. It was the State Government which handed over the case to the CID to probe in a hurry. Without taking our statements, the CID team had submitted its report to the Court. Now, we have furnished all documents to the Supreme Court,” he said.
