A meeting of District Tourism Development Committee to evolve city as a Model Tourist Centre was chaired by Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep at his office here this morning. In the wake of assault on a foreign tourist on the steps of Chamundi Hill recently, Randeep said that it was being planned to install gates at four spots along the hill steps to ensure safety and security to people using the steps. He said that heritage welcome arches each worth Rs. 1.5 crore would be installed at four entry points to city. He asked the Committee members to explore the feasibility of re-opening the subway in front of Dasara Exhibition Grounds incorporating heritage factors. The Committee members suggested the DC to initiate plans to have a regular handicrafts expo stall near the Dasara Exhibition where tourists can get all heritage products of Mysuru. The DC asked the officers concerned to initiate steps to get the area near Karikal Thotti of Palace in front of MCC office cleared of all bushes to present an aesthetic appeal. MCC Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, DCP Dr. H.T. Shekar, MCCI President A.S. Satish, ZP CEO Shivashankar, Hotel Owners Association President C. Narayanagowda and others attended the meeting.
