Mysore/Mysuru: The three-day Paridrishya 4th International Short Films and Documentaries Festival organised by Mysuru Cinema Society concluded yesterday, with MPs Yaudveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and Dr. C. N. Manjunath, veteran actors Girija Lokesh, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) Vice-President Sundarraj, director S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu among others gracing the stage.
Speaking on the occasion, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Wadiyar said, “Despite Karnataka having a rich history, people have been following the history written by the British and other foreigners.
“We have not been able to write our own history and we continue to study the history of Vijayangar Empire written by others, while there are books written in Kannada language available. We need to write about our history, which can be fulfilled through cinema,” he added.
Bengalore Rural MP Dr. C.N. Manjunath, in his address highlighted the contribution of Mysuru to the Kannada Film Industry and added that while thousands of movies have been made over the past decades, not single movie has been made on Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.
“There is a need for entertainment. However, movies, short films and documentaries must have a positive impact on the society. While the old movies were rich in literature and music, the recent movies are noisier,” he said.
Actor Daali Dhananjaya, remembering his days in Mysuru, said that his cinema journey began from the city.
Stating that short films had become medium to get noticed in the film industry, he added that the industry was undergoing transformation with new technologies.
“Today, there are opportunities to come out with movies using Artificial Intelligence (AI),” he added.
The three-day event witnessed screening of short films and documentaries from over 120 countries. The organisers also gave away awards to best short films and documentaries on the occasion.
Actors Lasya Shetty, Rohini Prakash, Mysuru Cinema Society President Dr. G.R. Chandrashekar, Hon. President M. Chethan, Secretary Padmavathi S. Bhat and others were present.
