Curtains drawn on Sammelana

Mysuru: The three-day 83rd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in city drew to a close with much fanfare yesterday. Thousands of people attended various events of the ‘Akshara Jathre,’ as it is popularly of known, well beyond the schedule of the valedictory function. Three resolutions were passes at the Sammelana — The first resolution is to thank the CM and the people of Mysuru for ensuring the success of the Sammelana, the second one is to get the withdrawn recognition for the courses of the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) from the UGC and the third one is a plea to the State Government to implement the recommendations of the Kannada Development Authority (KDA). The recommendations of the KDA include steps to strengthen Government Schools, implementation of the recommendations of the revised report of the Sarojini Mahishi Committee for according priority to Kannadigas in jobs and the recommendations for the encouragement of the use of Kannada language in social media. The three-day Meet discussed pro-people Movements, neglected and marginalised committees, future challenges in the media, agrarian issues, Kannada research and e-Commication, etc. The Meet also featured a host of cultural programmes. While the main venue of the Sammelana was Maharaja’s College Grounds, there were three other venues — Maharaja’s College Centenary Hall, Kalamandira and Town Hall. Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Manu Baligar claimed that the Sammelana was successful as it discussed a wide range of issues. “The Meet has discussed development of Kannada Research and social justice that has been recorded in Kannada history and e-Communication”, he said. The resolutions were read out by Dr. Manu Baligar in the presence of the Meet President Champa, Union Minister H.N. Ananth Kumar, District in-Charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, Sugar and Small Scale Industries Minister Dr. Geetha Mahadevaprasad, MP Pratap Simha, veteran Littérateur Dr. C.P. Krishna Kumar, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Chiefs of all the 30 districts and others personalities. Senior Littérateur Dr. H.S. Venkatesh Murthy delivered the valedictory address.
