In separate raids on cricket betting dens, the City Crime Branch (CCB) Police arrested 10 persons for indulging in cricket betting and seized a total of Rs. 90,500 stake money, 18 mobile phones and two bikes. In the first case, the CCB Police, who raided a park behind Ganapathy Temple in Kuvempunagar ‘M’ Block on June 18, arrested three persons are seized Rs. 17,500 stake money, five mobile phones and two bikes. The arrested have been identified as S. Rajath and Thandavamurthy, both residents of Kuvempunagar and Ranganath of Vidyaranyapuram. During interrogation, the CCB sleuths came to know that the accused used to lure public by offering double the betting amount for win and were cheating them. A case has been registered at Kuvempunagar Police Station in this regard. In the second incident, the CCB acting on a tip off arrested 7 people involved in cricket betting near Sweet Palace in Saraswathipuram 1st Main Road on June 15. The accused have been identified as Srinivas of Chennagirikoppal, Prashanth of Vijayanagar, Anil Kumar of Gangothri Layout, Sunil of Bogadi, Madan Kaushik of BEML Layout, Vinay of K.R. Mohalla and Gangadhar of Sunnadakeri. The Police also seized Rs. 73,000 stake money and 13 mobile phones. A case has been registered at Saraswathipuram Police Station in this regard. With cases of cricket betting on the rise in city, the Police have warned stringent action against those involved.
