Seeks support for strengthening law and order in the State
New Delhi: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar (DKS) called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah here yesterday and discussed on key issues concerning Karnataka.
In an X post, CM Shivakumar wrote, during his meeting with Amit Shah, he discussed several issues and sought his support for several important proposal aimed at strengthening law and order, police security, cyber crime prevention, police training infrastructure, prison modernisation, additional India Reserve Battalions, recognition of the Karnataka State Police through the President’s Colour and other measures essential for enhancing public safety and security across the State.
“I also urged his intervention on critical issues affecting Karnataka’s sugar sector, including enhancement of the Fair and Remunerative Price for sugarcane, revision of the Minimum Selling Price of sugar and increased ethanol procurement allocations to support cooperative sugar factories and ensure timely payments to farmers,” he wrote.
Additional IRB Battalions
CM DKS sought approval to establish two additional India Reserve Battalions (IRB) in Vijayanagar and Bengaluru South districts. A proposal involving an estimated expenditure of Rs. 243.87 cr. was submitted to the Ministry on Feb. 4, 2025.
He also sought for approval of a Rs. 280 crore proposal submitted under the Assistance to States and Union Territories for Modernisation of Police (ASUMP) scheme for setting up Command and Control Centres and communication infrastructure in four major cities.
The memorandum further sought the inclusion of police-related activities under Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013, enabling police departments to access CSR funds for various initiatives.
Modernisation of Police Training Infrastructure
Seeking improvements in police training infrastructure, the CM requested approval for a Rs. 258.53 cr. proposal to upgrade facilities at police training institutions in accordance with Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).
Prevention of Cyber Crime
Highlighting the increasing threat of cyber crime, Chief Minister Shivakumar appraised the Union Home Minister about Karnataka Government plans to establish the Karnataka Cyber Crime Control and Coordination Unit (K4C) at an estimated cost of Rs. 360 crore.
DKS said a detailed project report would be submitted shortly and requested the Centre’s support and approval for the initiative.
The CM also urged the Central Government to release Rs. 20 crore for prison modernisation, including procurement of CCTV cameras, walkie-talkies, and other security equipment.
In addition, he sought support for extending the deadline for implementing Rule 52-A of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, in Karnataka and requested the Shah to take up the matter with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
