Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is planning to renovate and reopen the city’s closed pedestrian subways ahead of the upcoming Dasara festival.

Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha said, the restoration works would be included in the main Dasara tender package to facilitate their early completion.

The works will include clearing accumulated debris, cleaning and sanitising the subways, installing adequate lighting, painting the walls and providing dustbins for proper waste disposal.

CCTV cameras will also be installed to enable round-the-clock monitoring of the passages.

“Cleaning and sanitation, lighting, painting, waste management and CCTV surveillance will be taken up as part of the restoration works,” Savitha said.

“After Dasara, we have plans to assess the long-term utility of the subways in consultation with the Police Department. A decision on keeping them permanently open will be taken based on security assessments and assurances from the Police regarding public safety,” the MCC Commissioner added.
