City skater to represent India in Asian Junior Meet

Rea Elizabeth Achaiah, a 17-year-old female skater from Mysuru, has been selected to represent the country in the 18th Asian Junior Roller Skating Championship at South Korea from August 8 to 15. It’s the fourth time she will be representing the country. Rea, a 2nd PU student of SBRR Mahajana PU College, started roller skating at the age of four and has so far won 110 gold, 13 silver and 6 bronze medals and has been crowned individual champion 21 times at district, State and National Competitions. When she was eight years old, she qualified for her first National Championship and won a bronze medal for Karnataka. Along with Roller Skating, she also does Ice-Speed Skating. She participated in the National Ice-Skating Championship in 2013-14 at Shimla and won three gold medals, in 2015-16 she won two gold medals at Gulmarg, Kashmir and in 2016-17 she won two gold medals at Shimla. In all, she has won seven gold medals in Ice-Skating National Championships. For her achievements over the past decade, she has received various awards which includes Balashree Award, Pratibha Puraskar Award from Women and Child Welfare Department and got cash awards from the State Government. A few days ago, SBRR Mahajana PU College felicitated. She is one of three skaters invited by the Korean Govt. to represent India in Ice-Skating to attend a Dream Programme 2015 (nurturing young athletes for the Olympics and Paralympics Winter Gaines 2018) at Seoul, South Korea in February 2015. Rea Achaiah has been training and coaching under the guidance of Srikanta Rao, an international skater, Indian team coach and Ekalavya Award winner. She is the daughter of K.N. Achaiah, who is self-employed and Priya Achaiah, a teacher in a private school.
