Mysuru: City’s Seventh Additional District and Session Court yesterday sentenced two persons to 20 years of imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 24,000 each of them for raping a minor girl in 2012. Those convicted have been identified as 28-year-old Chethan and 27-year-old Vasantha of Basavarajapura in K.R. Nagar taluk. They convicted for raping a minor girl in Basavarajapura, on Sept.1, 2012. The duo had attacked the girl and her boyfriend when they were resting near Chethan’s farm. They had chased away the boy after snatching his mobile phone and raped the girl. Chethan and his friend Vasantha were arrested on charges of gang rape by K.R. Nagar Police within hours of committing the crime. However, the two were out on bail after serving two and half years in judicial custody. As per the judgement, 20% of the total compensation should be paid to the boy and the rest to the girl as both were eligible for compensation under Central Victim Compensation Fund (CVCF). Public Prosecutor Mahanthappa argued on behalf of the victims.
