Mysore/Mysuru: A case has been registered at Kuvempunagar Police Station against City Armed Reserve (CAR) Head Constable Channakeshava, his wife Mamatha and five trustees of Gurukalpa Trust for allegedly defrauding a local educationist of Rs. 7.45 lakh under the pretext of appointing him as Vice-Principal and trustee of a PU college.
The complainant, Sunil, founder of Akshara Foundation and a prominent figure in the education sector, alleged that Channakeshava lured him with an offer to join Vishwamanava PU College as Vice-Principal.
According to Kuvempunagar Inspector Yogesh, the college, administered by Gurukalpa Trust — run by Channakeshava, Mamatha and other trustees — is located in Ramakrishnanagar.
Initially hesitant, Sunil was persuaded to join after promises of a high salary and a trustee position. He reportedly campaigned for the college across several schools, inducting many students.
Later, citing financial difficulties, Channakeshava requested Rs. 10 lakh, offering to formally induct Sunil as a trustee.
Though Sunil initially declined, he was convinced by Channakeshava and Mamatha to arrange the funds through a relative named Chayadevi. An agreement was signed and cheques were issued as security.
However, months passed without any formal appointment. Channakeshava allegedly backtracked, stating the money would now be treated as a loan, with interest to be paid, the complaint stated.
When Sunil raised the matter at a trustees’ meeting, Channakeshava and Mamatha reportedly responded dismissively.
Despite repeated requests, only Rs. 2.55 lakh was returned, while the remaining amount was withheld. Cheques issued by Channakeshava bounced, prompting Sunil to file a Police complaint.
The accused, including Channakeshava, allegedly behaved arrogantly and refused to return the money. With no other recourse, Sunil has registered a case against Channakeshava, Mamatha and the five Gurukalpa Trust members.
