Businessman receives fake Rs. 2,000 currency note from customer

Mysuru: It seems that demonetisation of high value currencies which was implemented to stop circulation of fake currencies has no effect on miscreants as a businessman in city has received a fake currency of Rs. 2,000 denomination by a customer recently. The businessman came to know that the currency was fake, when he went to the bank to deposit the same. The businessman, who received the fake currency, has been identified as Raviteja, a resident of Kanakagiri, who runs a stationary shop at Vidyaranyapuram in city. On Friday, a customer came to his shop and bought some stationary items and gave the fake Rs. 2,000 note to him and took the change. Raviteja, on Saturday, went to Syndicate Bank in Chamundipuram to pay the instalment for the loan he had taken and gave the Bank staff at the counter the loan amount which had the Rs. 2,000 note given by the customer. The bank staff, while counting the currencies found that the Rs. 2,000 note was fake and informed the matter to Raviteja who told them he did not know how the fake note came to him. The bank staff then put a seal ‘FAKE NOTE’ on the Rs. 2,000 note and gave it back to him. The bank authorities have cautioned the public to be careful while doing transactions besides advising them to check the currencies before receiving the same. A torn Rs. 2,000 currency was dispensed by Karnataka Bank ATM in Chamundipuraman ATM in city. Puneetha G. Kudlur is the person who received the torn currency.
