Mysuru: The decomposed bodies of a young man and a minor girl were found in a field at Gungral Chhatra in Mysuru taluk on Oct. 16. Police suspect that the two may have died by suicide after consuming poison around four days ago.

The deceased have been identified as Santosh (18), son of Kumar of Doddekoppalu village in K.R. Nagar taluk, who was pursuing a diploma course in Holenarasipur in Hassan and Priyanka (16), an SSLC student from Subhash Nagar in Hebbal, Mysuru.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the two became acquainted through Instagram and later developed a relationship.

According to Police sources, Priyanka left home at around 10.30 am on Oct. 12, telling her mother that she was going to visit an unwell friend. When she failed to return, her father lodged a missing complaint at Metagalli Police Station on Oct. 13.

On the same day, Santosh reportedly asked a friend to drop him at Basavanagudi Circle in Mysuru. How the two met and the circumstances leading to their deaths are yet to be established.

Yelwal Police shifted the bodies to MMC&RI for post-mortem. The bodies were later handed over to the respective families. A case has been registered at Yelwal Police Station and further investigation is underway.
