The popular concept that only bike-borne miscreants indulge in snatching chains from city womenfolk was proved wrong on Feb.15, when a miscreant on foot snatched a 30 gram gold chain from a woman near Surya Bakery in Hebbal. The woman, who lost her chain has been identified as Jayamma, a resident of Hebbal. It is reported that a 30 to 35 year-old woman, who befriended Jayamma, while on a walk showed a purse to Jayamma saying that she found it on the road. Meanwhile, a man who saw the woman showing the purse to Jayamma immediately tried to snatch the purse saying it was his and accusing the woman of stealing it. Even as the woman insisted that she had not stolen it, the man, pretending to be scared walked away. It was at this time the woman who was with Jayamma, sprayed something on her (Jayamma) face and made away with her gold chain. Vijayanagar Police, who have registered a case in this regard are investigating.
