New Delhi, June 4- On the day when D.K. Shivakumar (DKS) was sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka yesterday, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) appointed senior Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad as the new Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President.
B.K. Hariprasad, an MLC, succeeds D.K. Shivakumar, who has taken over as the Chief Minister.
The AICC, in a press release issued yesterday, said that the 71-year-old Hariprasad's appointment comes into immediate effect.
Hariprasad, a native of Bengaluru, has served the Congress in various capacities for more than four decades. He had also served as a Rajya Sabha member for four terms in the period from 1990 to 2014.
Meanwhile, the Congress has named B.K. Hariprasad as one of its four candidates for the Legislative Council Polls scheduled to take place on June 18. Hariprasad's current tenure as an MLC will end on June 30.
