Animals, birds gather together to clean Mysuru!

Mysuru: How does it look if elephants hold broomsticks? What if birds themselves collect garbage and put it into the dustbins? Who is going to chase cows that eat plastic? These were the creative messages on cleanliness, the city’s budding artists depicted through their paintings. Even as the Swachhata fever gripped the city, artists and students of various institutions joined hands painting the wall and the one with R.K. Laxman’s ‘Common Man’ holding a broom with the message ‘We Need It We Do It,’ is garnering attention. The event was organised as part of the ‘Swachhata Fortnight’ jointly by the Directorate of Field Publicity, District Administration, Department of Information and Publicity, Citizens Forum for Swachh Mysuru and JSS Mahavidyapeetha. Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep launched it on Jan. 19 at the Wesley Church compound, opposite the Sub-urban Bus Stand. More than 150 students of CAVA (Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts), Ravi Varma Art Institute, Kalanikethana School of Art and Vijayanthi Kala College exhibited their talent by decorating the wall measuring 180-foot in length and 6.5 ft in height with their art and attracted a lot of attention. Randeep and Assistant Director Field Publicity T.C. Poornima both painted on the wall, thus showing their dexterity with the brush. The event is aimed at cleaning the city by giving an opportunity to artists to participate in Swachh Bharat Mission, she said. Paintings catch the eyes: The growth of trees, even between sky-high apartments reflect environment concerns, maintaining of clean toilets in rural areas, pure air blowing amidst peacocks and other birds, Swachh Bharat made out of broomsticks, the clean surroundings around the magnificent Mysore Palace, are some of the more than 50 eco-conscious paintings. MCC Health Officer Dr. Nagaraju said that budding artistes are painting the places, identified as dirty, along with school premises, gardens and other prominent places. Advocates, doctors and KSRTC employees will participate in the cleanliness drive on different days, said Poornima.
