Mysuru: They were all dressed in white khadi shirts, pants and dhotis and seemed as though they had assembled at the Freedom Fighters Park (Subbarayana Kere) on Narayana Shastry Road in city to launch a stir. But, no. They all were veteran freedom fighters who had assembled at the park to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Quit India Movement. The freedom fighters hoisted the National Flag and later garlanded the bust of Mahatma Gandhi. They sat under the peepal tree and recalled the Quit India Movement that happened in Mysuru. Prof. Venkatachalaiah, veteran freedom fighter, who spoke on the occasion, said that the struggle was so intense that everyone had made up their minds not to stop the struggle until the British gave us freedom. “Quit India Movement is one among the most important part of our freedom struggle. People from all walks of life including the students, advocates, teachers and others took part in the movement which led to India attaining freedom in the year 1947,” he added.
