Mysuru, Oct. 26 - The Scouts and Guides Grounds near the Old DC’s Office came alive this morning with wagging tails, cheerful barks, and excited cheers as the Canine Club of Mysore, affiliated with the Kennel Club of India, hosted the 11th and 12th Championship Dog Shows along with Obedience Trials.
Hundreds of students, dog lovers and curious onlookers thronged the venue, many capturing selfies and photographs with the furry participants that turned the ground into a lively spectacle.
The event was inaugurated by MLA G.T. Devegowda. Among those present were Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, MLAs T.S. Srivatsa, K. Harishgowda, former MLA L. Nagendra, Legislative Council Member K. Vivekananda and Canine Club of Mysore President B.P. Manjunath, among others.
Before the inauguration, the guests paid floral tributes to late MLA Vasu and Star of Mysore and Mysuru Mithra Founder-Editor late Dr. K.B. Ganapathy as a mark of respect.
The show drew 432 entries representing 53 breeds from across India, with participants arriving from Ranchi, Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Many owners transported their prized dogs in specially equipped air-conditioned vehicles fitted with air coolers, ice trays and other cooling aids to ensure their comfort.
53 breeds
Among the featured breeds were Australian Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, German Shepherd (Normal and Long Coat), Welsh Corgi (Pembroke), Boxer, Saint Bernard, Doberman, Dogo Argentino, Great Dane, Caravan Hound, Miniature Pinscher, Perro de Presa Canario, Rottweiler, Australian Silky Terrier, Fox Terrier, Jack Russell Terrier, Yorkshire Terrier, Dachshund (Smooth, Long and Wire Haired) and Pomeranian.
Other popular breeds on display included Siberian Husky, Basset Hound, Beagle-Harrier, Dalmatian, English Pointer, German Short-haired Pointer, Irish Setter, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, American Cocker Spaniel, Chihuahua, French Bulldog, Toy Poodle, Pug, Shih Tzu, Saluki, Whippet, and several Indian native breeds such as Chippiparai, Combai, Kanni, Mudhol Hound, Pashmi, and Rajapalayam.
Obedience rounds
The dogs charmed the crowds with their elegance and discipline. Obedience rounds showcasing the bond between handlers and their dogs received special applause. Competitions were held in three rounds, with dogs judged on appearance, gait, health, tooth structure, coat quality, and overall temperament.
The judging panel included noted experts — C.V. Sudarshan, who has earned distinction in dog show judging across India; International Judge Derrick Seow Nam Soon, a life member of The Malaysia Kennel Association and Mysuru’s judge M.R. Manjunath.
All participating dogs were microchipped and required to display registration numbers during inspection at the main gate. The organisers also arranged tents for participants and set up counters selling pedigree feeds and other dog-care essentials.
Canine Club of Mysore Vice-Presidents Dr. D.T. Jayaramaiah and Dr. H.C. Suresh, Secretary Dr. H. Sanjeev Murthy, Joint Secretaries T. Shashikumar, M.H. Tejaswi and L.S. Sandeep, Treasurer M.C. Vinod Kumar and several dignitaries were present.
