Mysuru: In a preventive action against petty crimes coupling with pedestrian safety, the City Traffic Police evicted over 20 footpath vendors near KSRTC Sub-Urban Bus Stand on Mother Teresa Road (part of Bengaluru-Nilgiri Road) in the city recently.

These footpath vendors had encroached the significant portion of the footpath adjacent to pre-paid auto counter, located at the main entrance of KSRTC Sub-Urban Bus Stand, severely inconveniencing the pedestrians.

Pedestrians moving freely on same footpath without hindrance.

As the vendors of gimcrack items selling fancy materials, garments and other accessories, were running make-shift stalls throughout the day, the pedestrians had little or no space to move with ease on the footpath stretch. Especially, the girl students and women, were jostling for space, with drooling miscreants indulging in eve-teasing and brushing past, much to their embarrassment.

On priority, the City Traffic ACP M. Shivashankar warned the footpath vendors of action and succeeded in evicting them, much to the relief of pedestrians. Besides, the Traffic Police deputed at nearby junctions, will be monitoring the said footpath stretch daily, to prevent recurrence of any crimes.

When Star of Mysore correspondent brought to the notice of ACP about similar situation on Sayyaji Rao Road, the Officer passed the buck on MCC to act on such matters of pedestrian safety without delay.
